Just a few pics of a recent camping trips.
The first trip in the WRX...
... led to the purchase of a hat for the WRX.
Our last trip was to a Scout camp. They have semi-permanent tents on platforms and most of the meals are provided, so the amount we have to carry is much smaller and setup is easy!
This is my tent before my temporary roommate moved in. This was the first time I’ve had to use mosquito netting. It was the only way to keep the bugs (and SPIDERS!!!) off.
The Troop has a nice trailer for hauling all of the gear. The hat didn’t come along for this trip.

I think every scout camp ever uses those tents. Spent quite a few weeks of my youth in those things.

Our local camp doesn’t have them, so they were new to me. This was our first camping trip outside the state.

Really? Where are you located? I’ve been to several different scout camps in the Virginia area, and all of them used those same tents.

We are in Louisiana. Our area is pretty flat, so there really isn’t much need for a leveled platform.

I’m in SE LA, and I’ve been itching to go camping. Is there much in the way of decent camping areas towards the middle of the state? I’m not into fishing or hunting, but I’d love to hike a bit and see some nice sights.

There are some nice state parks around. I have to admit that we have been spoiled with the Scouts. We have access to places that the general public does not.
If you want flat and a mix of forest, swamp, river, and lake, then look at the parks and WMAs on the north side of Pontchartrain and surrounding lake Maurepas. We have been to Tickfaw and Fontainebleau. Both were nice. In that same general area are Joyce WMA and Manchac WMA. If you want to get into hillier country, drive an hour or two further north to get to Kisatchie National Forest or go to Homochitto in Mississippi.
There’s no shortage of state and national parks in the area .
